statement

Writers are told to “write what you know”. I paint what I know—Vermont. Although the beauty of Vermont is constant, the weather, light and colors are forever changing; not just daily but even hourly. In Vermont, you don’t have to look far to be inspired. Looking out the window near my desk, I am inspired by a trio of birch trees in the field, “The Three Sisters”. I’ve painted these birch tress in every possible light and in every season. I never tire of Vermont’s mountains, fields and skies.

I’m a late bloomer. Although I studied art in college, I spent most of my adult life making a living in finance and raising a family. At age 39 I discovered pastels and that discovery forever changed me. Pastels have become my favorite medium. With pastels I can quickly capture color, light and form.
